What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is a gentle, hands-on (or hands-above) energy healing technique originating in Japan. Through Traditional Usui Reiki, I channel universal life force energy to support your body’s natural ability to restore balance, clarity, and well-being.
Reiki is not a belief system or religion—it’s a sacred, nurturing practice that welcomes all backgrounds. In a session, you remain fully clothed and simply allow yourself to receive. My hands rest lightly on or hover above specific areas, inviting energy to flow where it’s needed most. Many people describe this experience as deeply calming, heart-opening, and restorative—even in just a short session.

Reiki’s Roots: A Brief Story

Reiki was “rediscovered” in the late 1800s by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese healer and spiritual teacher. Through meditation and devotion, Usui received the gift of Reiki and devoted his life to sharing it with others. His teachings remind us that healing is most powerful when infused with appreciation, kindness, and the willingness to be present—values that are woven into every session I offer.

As Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to the West, so beautifully said:

“I believe there exists One Supreme Being – the Absolute Infinite – a Dynamic Force that governs the world and universe… I shall call it Reiki.”
